Key Ingredients

Dry-Rendered Tallow

The same fatty acids your skin already makes, so it melts in instead of sitting on top. Rich in fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K.

Jojoba Oil

The closest botanical match to skin's own sebum, which is why it absorbs weightlessly and leaves no film behind.

Calendula

Marigold flowers steeped into our jojoba oil, which is what gives the balm its soft gold color. In the three scented balms only — the Unscented is plain jojoba.

Raw Honey

A humectant — it draws water toward the skin and helps hold it there. Ours is raw and unpasteurized, which is why the color shifts through the season.

Vitamin E

A naturally occurring antioxidant that slows the oils from oxidizing — which is what lets the balm keep without synthetic preservatives.

Full ingredient list

Dry-Rendered Tallow, Organic Jojoba Oil (calendula-infused in the scented balms), Organic Raw Honey, Vitamin E (Tocopherol). The scented balms add essential oils — the exact blend is on the jar.

Frequently asked questions

Will it break me out?

Tallow is closer in composition to your skin's own oil than most plant oils are, and plenty of people with combination or reactive skin get on well with it. Everyone's skin is its own thing, though. If you'd rather ease in, start with the Unscented.

Does it smell like beef?

No. Properly rendered tallow is close to odorless. Any scent you notice comes from the essential oils, or in the Unscented, from almost nothing at all.

How much should I use?

Less than you think. Start with an amount about the size of a grain of rice for your face, warm it between your fingers and press it into damp skin. If it's still sitting on top after a minute, you used too much.

Why does my jar look different from the last one?

Because it's made in small batches from real ingredients. Our honey is raw and locally sourced, and raw honey shifts in color and aroma through the season. Tallow varies a little too. It isn't a flaw, it's what happens when nothing is standardized with fillers.

How should I store it?

Somewhere cool and out of direct sun. Tallow softens in heat and firms up when it's cold. If it arrives soft in summer it will set again. A hot car is the one place to avoid.
