Tallow is rendered beef fat. Its fatty acid profile is remarkably close to our own sebum, which is why it absorbs the way it does instead of sitting on top of the skin. We dry-render ours in-house, in small batches, from fat sourced at Ida Meats — our family's USDA-inspected facility in Southern Idaho.

Tallow is closer in composition to your skin's own oil than most plant oils are, and plenty of people with combination or reactive skin get on well with it. Everyone's skin is its own thing, though. If you'd rather ease in, start with the Unscented Whipped Buzz Balm — our simplest formula, plain tallow and plain jojoba, no calendula infusion and no essential oils.

No. Properly rendered tallow is close to odorless. Any scent you notice comes from the essential oils — or, in the Unscented, from almost nothing at all.

Lavender & Frankincense is the calm one. Lemon & Eucalyptus is the bright one. Rose & Geranium is the softest. Unscented is for anyone who'd rather skip fragrance entirely.

Because it's made in small batches from real ingredients. Our honey is raw and locally sourced, and raw honey shifts in color and aroma through the season. Tallow varies a little too. It isn't a flaw — it's what happens when nothing is standardized with fillers.

Somewhere cool and out of direct sun. Tallow softens in heat and firms up when it's cold — if it arrives soft in summer, it will set again. A hot car is the one place to avoid.

Less than you think. Warm a small amount between your fingers and press it into damp skin — face, body, hands, elbows, anywhere dry. It melts on contact and goes further than it looks like it will.

Part your hair in sections and work a few drops into the scalp with your fingertips, then run whatever is left through the mid-lengths and ends. Leave it in for at least twenty minutes — or overnight on a towel — then shampoo it out. Once or twice a week is plenty.

Whenever your lips want it. It's the same tallow base as the balm, just firmer, so it stays put. Good last thing at night, and good before lipstick.

Yes — that's how it's meant to be used. One jar covers face, hands, elbows, knees and anywhere else that goes dry. You'll just use a lot less on your face.

Last. Anything water-based goes on first, then the balm on top while your skin is still damp — that's what gives it something to hold onto.

If it's still sitting on your skin after a minute, you used too much. Start with an amount the size of a grain of rice for your face and build from there.

Everything is made and packed by hand here in Idaho, so orders usually go out within 1–2 business days. You'll get a tracking email as soon as yours is on its way.

All sales are final. Because everything we make is small-batch skincare made by hand, we can't restock or resell a product once it has left us — so we don't take returns or exchanges.

That said, we stand behind what we send. If your order arrives damaged, or it isn't what you ordered, email us and we'll make it right.

Shaae is my own middle name, with one extra "a" added. It's not a name I picked off a list or focus-grouped — it's mine, which means everything with this name on it is something I'm willing to stand behind personally.

Before Shaae was a brand, it was a shift in how I wanted to take care of myself. I started paying closer attention to what I was actually putting on my skin — questioning ingredient lists I couldn't pronounce, and looking for something simpler and more honest. Tallow balm was the result: a handful of ingredients I can explain to you myself, nothing hidden behind a label. I make what I'd want to use, and I use what I make.

I grew up around cattle — it's just what my family did, and it's still part of who I am. We were already raising and processing cattle honestly, through Ida Meats, so I started asking why the tallow should go to waste. Skincare made from something I understood, sourced from people I already trusted, felt like the obvious next step.
